Virtual Kids Crew Event: Monkeying Around the State

April 4, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

As of Monday, March 16, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending no large gatherings of 10+ people take place.

As always, the health and well-being of Epilepsy Foundation event participants, volunteers, staff and partners, as well as the greater epilepsy community, remains our top priority. We are committed to the overall wellness and safety to those we serve.

Out of an abundance of caution, we will hold our Kids Crew event online instead of in person. Share about your activities & meet other Kids Crew members across Iowa!

Time: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Preregister: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUoceqpqTks9qh5xHPDuKOdviRKwMcJKA

We can’t get together in person but we can still have some fun!

Did you know that animals can have seizures just like humans? It is true! And if the animal is diagnosed with epilepsy, many times a veterinarian (doctor for animals) will have the animal take medications JUST LIKE HUMANS!

Your next adventure as a Kids Crew Member is to learn about an animal that can have seizures. This event is going from now until the end of April! Here is what I need you to do:

Research 1 animal that can have seizures. (Ask your mom or dad to help use the internet).
Learn what you would do if you saw an animal having a seizure. (Hint: it is the same that you would do for a human. Please use the Stay Safe Side Poster to learn about seizure first aid!)
Tell me which animal you found! You can write this to me in a letter, draw a picture, take a picture, write an email, or any other way you can get the information to me! Be sure to include your name, age, and address with your animal information!

Once you tell me or show me your animal, here is what I am going to do:

I will post your animal, pictures, etc on social media so that all the Kids Crew members can see the other animals you found! Feel free to tag yourself! (If you do not want your child’s submission on social media, please include that information with their submission.)
I will mail you a special Kids Crew prize! (This is why name and address are requested with submission!)
I am going to put all the submissions together and display them on the Zoom Meeting and at the 2020 Seizure Smart Conference this fall!

Register and tune in to the Zoom Meeting on April 4 and: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUoceqpqTks9qh5xHPDuKOdviRKwMcJKA

You will learn about why the Stay, Safe, Side Poster can be used for humans and for animals.
You can share the animal you found (if you would rather I share it for you, I can.)
You can learn about the animals other Kids Crew Members found as they share them!

I want you to have a lot of fun with this and I want to learn about all the animals you find! If you have any questions, feel free to email me at mmiddaugh@efa.org or call 319-359-8682.
